FIRST  LOVE  LOST

            by dc HILL

     If we had acted then

     On what we know today,

     Would our world be better?

I experienced a wonder.

A love growing towards full bud,

My daughter, in youthful vigor,

Had grown so close to her companion, Ted.

He, for the past seven years,

Was constantly beside her,

Until that fateful day.

We were driving in the beach wagon,

They in the back frolicking.

It was hot, the back window slid down.

In the mirror, I saw Ted dancing

As though he was on puppet strings.

Their antics began to irritate me.

My not so gentle words

Must have startled them.

His antics stopped in mid-air

The animation strings snapped

Propelling Ted into the void behind.

Her first love lost.

What words can soothe

A spirit crushed

By separation

At fifty-five miles per hour.

I was so senseless then.

The years have passed

And I have seen another love

Enter her mended heart.

That love is full,

With a strength

That comes with maturity.

But I still can't stop

Reflecting on that time,

More than twenty years ago,

When Stacey lost her teddy bear.

My dear Dad; dc HILL, always to me will be:

A man with thick-curly-auburn-hair,

he started to grey but not many were there.

Life he took seriously and easily,

and remembered this in his poetry.

The man I first called Da,

wanted to be my kids G. Pa…

different he always was!

His first girl; after his sis…

  his second; I reckless…

     his third; a princess…

       until fourth came; the prince.

We so love/loved our lives together,

   my family..

God Bless not a matter a what!

   Resurrect what has been taught!

In you mine;

   I always believe in infinity.
